The Story Behind The Union at Stockyards

Fort Worth has long been a city shaped by movement—of people, cattle, railcars, and opportunity. And nowhere is that history more alive than in the Stockyards.

In the late 1800s, this part of Fort Worth served as a vital junction. Cowboys driving cattle up the Chisholm Trail stopped here before heading north, making the area a key stop on one of the most significant cattle-driving routes in American history. The arrival of the Texas & Pacific Railway in 1876 marked a turning point, turning Fort Worth into a major livestock shipping point and opening the door to national markets.

By the early 1900s, the Stockyards had evolved into one of the busiest livestock centers in the country. With the founding of the Fort Worth Stockyards Company in 1893 and the establishment of meatpacking plants by Swift and Armour soon after, the area became a commercial powerhouse. The Livestock Exchange Building, constructed in 1902, quickly became the center of that activity and earned a reputation as the financial heart of the livestock industry in the region.

We chose the name The Union at Stockyards to honor that legacy. The word “Union” reflects how Fort Worth became a point of convergence—a place where rail lines met, where cattle were shipped in and out by the millions, and where diverse communities and industries came together to build something larger than themselves.

It also speaks to the idea of connection. At The Union at Stockyards, we’re carrying that same spirit forward. Our community sits next to the historic Swift & Co. building and is surrounded by the living history of the district. Here, you’ll find modern one- and two-bedroom apartments with high-end finishes and thoughtful amenities designed for today’s lifestyle—all set against the backdrop of daily cattle drives, local shops, and Western heritage.

This isn’t just a place to live. It’s a place where past and present meet. Where the grit and growth that built Fort Worth are honored through intentional design and a strong sense of place.

The Union at Stockyards is more than a name. It’s a reflection of what this neighborhood has always been about—community, movement, and legacy.
